Research activities of the group concentrate on theoretical studies
of physical
processes in stellar atmospheres, in stellar winds and rarified astrophysical
plasma and application of the theory for processing of observational data
and interpreting them. Much of studies have been carried out in collaboration
with scientists from other observatories and institutes. Main studies during
recent years have been aimed at
- analysing formation and variability of spectral
line profiles in stellar atmospheres and stellar wind.
An emphasis has been made on study of O-B type supergiants
based on high-dispersion echelle IUE spectra (A. Sapar, L. Sapar);
- studying the formation of chemical peculiarities due to
diffusion and drift processes in the atmospheres of CP stars
(A. Sapar, A. Aret);
- finding of analytical solutions of radiative transfer in stellar and
planetary atmospheres and their applications (T. Viik);
- carrying out statistical analysis of time series
of observations to investigate solar and stellar activity,
behaviour of variable stars and active galactic nuclei,
gravitational lensing of quasars (J. Pelt);
