Different aspects of the strong winds of novae, which are optically thick in the continuum will be considered. Firstly a new study of spectra of nova V1500 Cyg shows the presence of a short lived high velocity wind for a short time in its development, which swept up previously ejected material. Comments will be made on how to interpret the observed narrowing of emission lines after outburst for this and other novae. Finally the validity of theoretical models of nova winds such as those of Kato will be considered.
